Carluke High School: Jonathan Jack

In an icy cold facade
it lay there burning.
Like blazing fires, white with heat
it simmers within us.
We try with our utmost strength to conceal its existence,
embarrassed by the true power of manipulation it has over our helpless corpses.
But it is something we cannot control.
Fuelled by our human need for perfection
Pressure. Demand. Expectation.
An overwhelming driving force
that invades our minds, actions and words.
We scald others as we explode
and scald ourselves as we implode.
And when the simmering bubbles diminish into cool, calm waters once more
we mock ourselves in thinking that it will not return.
But it will.
As underneath an icy cold facade
It lay there
